Durpin

FEATURES

Never lose a shot

Shots wait on the phone until they upload, and the "couldn't upload" card in the Darkroom.

Since build 7

Every shot you take is saved on your phone first and uploaded after. It stays on the phone until the server has it. If the upload can't happen, the shot waits, and if it can never upload, Durpin keeps it for you to save or delete. Durpin never throws a shot away on its own.

Shooting with no signal

The shutter is ready again as soon as you take a shot; the upload happens in the background. With no signal you can keep shooting. The camera says "Offline. 3 shots will upload later." and shows "3 to upload" under the flip button.

The phone tries again on its own: when you open Durpin, when you come back to it, and every 15 seconds while anything is waiting. Closing the app, restarting the phone or updating Durpin doesn't lose the queue, and a shot Durpin was still saving when it closed is picked up again the next time you open it.

When your phone is full

A shot needs a little room on the phone to get its film look before it uploads. When the phone is out of space, the shot waits as it does with no signal, and doesn't use up any of its tries: the camera says "Your phone is full. 3 shots will upload once there's space." Free up some space and they go up on the next try. A shot you take while the phone is full can't be saved at all; Durpin says "Your phone is full. Free up some space and take it again." instead of the phone's own error, and adding from your photos in the Darkroom says "Your phone is full" too, instead of that it couldn't read them (build 16).

A shot that uploads late still counts on the day you took it, as long as it was taken within the last 7 days. It's in your Darkroom, ready to turn over, as soon as it arrives.

When the server says no

Sometimes the server refuses a shot, and trying again won't change the answer:

A shot that keeps failing for some other reason is tried up to 5 times, then treated the same way, with "This shot couldn't upload." No signal, a server too busy to take it right then, or a full phone isn't one of the 5: the shot waits and goes up later.

None of these are deleted. The camera tells you with an alert, "Couldn't upload a shot", the reason, and "It's kept in the darkroom, where you can save it to Photos."

The couldn't upload card

Open the Darkroom. At the top is a card, "1 shot couldn't upload" (or "2 shots couldn't upload", and so on): "It's still on this phone. Save it to Photos so you keep it." Each shot has a thumbnail (a play icon for a clip), when you took it, the reason, and two buttons.

The card stays until you've dealt with every shot on it. A shot on it isn't in your journal, your friends' feed or Recently deleted: the copy on your phone is the only one.

Shots from builds before 7 that were stuck on the phone without being queued show up on the same card, with "This shot didn't upload. Save it to Photos or delete it."

Signing out

If you sign out while some of your shots haven't uploaded, Settings says so first: "2 shots haven't uploaded yet. They'll upload when you sign in again." For shots on the couldn't upload card it says "1 shot couldn't upload. It's kept on this phone: sign in again to save it to Photos."

Signing out doesn't delete them. They wait on the phone: the next time you sign in on it they upload, and the card is back in your Darkroom. Someone else who signs in on the same phone never sees them, counts them or uploads them. Nothing else of your account is left for them either: they start with their own friends, feed, Darkroom, frame counter, shared rolls and Activity.

Signing out works with no signal too. Durpin forgets your session on the phone even when it can't reach the server, so next time it opens on Welcome, not signed in as you.
